New York, March 31, 2011: 'American Sikh Community Vaisakhi Breakfast'
organised by Mohinder Singh Taneja, the NY Director of Sikh Council on Religion and Education at Nassau County Police HQ, on March 31st 2011,was a grand success. The event was attended by Sr.
Police Officials of Nassau County and many Chiefs of Village Police Departments and Community Leaders from Indian, Pakistani, Chinese and Korean communities from the metropolitan area.
The senior Police brass, including Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey, incoming Acting Commissioner Thomas Krumpter, Chief of Dept. Steve Skrynecki and the North Hempstead Supervisor Hon' Jon Kaiman seemed to
be visibly impressed with the friendly Sikh gesture and the lavish BF hospitality. They praised the 'Sikh' initiative with friendly reciprocation.
The outgoing Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey was honored and presented with a 'Sword, Saropa & Bracelet' in the true Sikh tradition by the community, as a mark of appreciation, for his services to the
County and attention to the Sikh community, by agreeing to recruit Sikhs with Turban and beard.
Mohinder Singh Taneja ( Organiser) and Det. Lt. Gary Shapiro, welcomed
the community and the officials. Mr. Paramjit Bedi spoke about the
importance of Vaisakhi.
A Bhangra presentation added colour and fun to the event.
